MegaWomen Conference will bring together mining women from Megaregion AZ-SON
Las Mineras: MegaWomen of the MegaRegion, organized by the Mining Cluster of Sonora, WorldWise Coaching LLC, and the U.S. Consulate General in Nogales, will take place on International Women’s Day, March 8.
The conference, designed to promote prosperity in the Arizona-Sonora megaregion, is sponsored by the U.S. State Department Economic Bureau’s POWER initiative to champion global women’s economic empowerment and leadership. Gender equality and women’s empowerment, including women’s economic empowerment, are top priorities for the Biden-Harris Administration. Through POWER, the State Department’s Economic Bureau employs the full reach of U.S. diplomatic networks in support of women’s economic empowerment and advancement of U.S. economic priorities. Women leaders are key to improving security and prosperity in both the United States and Mexico. In traditionally male-dominated fields, such as the mining sector, mentoring, education, and business support are more crucial than ever. In light of the global pandemic, POWER supports larger U.S. government strategies and policy priorities on inclusive economic recovery by supporting women in supply chains and critical industries.
This conference will showcase successful women leaders who will provide participants with vital insight on the skills necessary to succeed in mining. It will raise awareness of U.S.-Mexico cross-border business opportunities and outline strategies for successful collaboration and partnership. The discussion will also highlight the new labor and gender equity reforms in the USMCA agreement and how they can best be used to promote women’s economic stability.
The virtual event will bring together approximately 100 women from Sonora and Arizona on Zoom and will be open to interested audiences through YouTube and Facebook.
